I just added a new page to the site that I think will make it easy for you guys to know what I need prayer for. You can find it on the top menu and under "prayer needs". I'll update it often so that you can know the things where I feel I could use a little help. I've been reading a lot about prayer lately, it's a powerful tool that I feel gets underutilized by myself a lot more then I'd like to admit. This week I had some really interesting answers to prayer that I will try and write about, but for now I hope you check out my prayer needs page.
I know some of you are prayer warriors and I hope to one day be there with you. I was reading about several major revivals that have had just insane success. Behind each one was a group of people persistently praying. Read these quotes from J.D. Grear in his book "Jesus Continued"
"Immediately after Jesus ascends to heaven, the early church remains in the upper room for ten days. We don't know everything they did there, but we do know that the main thing they did was pray (Acts 1:14). Then God pours out his Holy Spirt, and Peter stands up to preach. His sermon, as best we can tell, lasted for about ten minutes... and three thousand people were saved.
Today we shuffle the zeroes around: we pray for ten minutes, preach for ten days... and only three people get saved."
"Charles Spurgeon grew one of the largest churches in history, with over 10,000 weekly attenders in downtown London (and this was during a time when megachurches were unheard of!). An American pastor traveled all the way across the Atlantic to learn the "secret" of Spurgeon's success. Spurgeon told the pastor there was really no "secret", but if he had to identify something, it would be found in a room deep beneath the church sanctuary. He walked the pastor down to the church's basement, where he showed him three hundred people on their faces praying as the service went on upstairs. Spurgeon rarely preached without hundreds of people on their faces asking God to send the Holy Spirt."
As I continue on this journey one of the things I am focusing on is prayer. I am in the short prayer club for sure. I get distracted while praying or feel weird repeating the same thing over and over. Persistence is something I am trying to add. If you're in the same boat we can go on this journey of prayer growth together, and if you're already the faithful prayer warrior please pray for us, that God would fill us with his spirit.
